Reserve stability

The margin by which a residual fuel can continue to keep its asphaltenes dispersed when subjected to storage, heating, ageing or a reduction in solvency. It may be assessed using supplementary tests such as P-value or separability number; adequate reserve stability reduces risk but does not guarantee compatibility with another fuel.
