Particulate contamination

Unwanted solid material suspended in a fuel or other fluid, including dirt, rust, wear debris, catalyst fines and microbial residue. Particles can block filters and cause abrasive wear, while their operational effect depends on concentration, size, hardness and the clearances within the fuel system.
