Contamination by bacteria, yeasts or fungi that can grow where fuel and water are present, particularly at the fuel-water interface. The organisms and their by-products can form slime and acids, block filters, degrade fuel and contribute to tank and fuel-system corrosion; effective control includes removing water and addressing the affected system, not merely treating the fuel.
