Gas oil containing prescribed chemical markers and, in some jurisdictions, coloured dye to identify a reduced-duty or otherwise controlled fiscal status. Marking does not define the fuel's technical quality or marine suitability, and the permitted uses vary by law; in marine trading, the term should be written out because "MGO" more commonly means marine gas oil.
