Motor octane number (MON)

A measure of a petrol's resistance to knock determined in a standard test engine under relatively severe operating conditions. A higher MON indicates greater knock resistance in that test; MON is normally lower than RON for the same petrol, and the difference between them is termed fuel sensitivity.
