Carbon residue

The mass of residue remaining after a fuel or oil is evaporated and pyrolysed under specified test conditions. It provides an approximate indication of relative carbon-forming tendency between comparable products, but is not a direct measure of deposits in an engine and can be affected by ash-forming material and non-volatile additives.
