An empirical index calculated from the density and viscosity of a residual fuel to provide a readily available indication of possible ignition performance. A higher CCAI is generally associated with a greater risk of prolonged ignition delay, but the value is not a direct measurement of aromatic content, ignition delay or combustion quality and should not be used alone as a pass-or-fail assessment.
