Hydrodynamic lubrication

A full-film lubrication regime in which relative motion draws a viscous lubricant into a converging clearance and generates pressure sufficient to support the load and separate the surfaces. Film formation depends principally on speed, viscosity, load and geometry and may be lost during starting, stopping or lubricant starvation.
