Penetration

A measure of grease consistency obtained from the depth to which a standard cone enters the sample under specified conditions, normally reported in tenths of a millimetre. A higher penetration value indicates a softer grease; the result should identify whether the sample was unworked, worked or subjected to prolonged working.
