The representative sample of fuel oil delivered to a ship in accordance with regulation 18.8.1 of MARPOL Annex VI. Under IMO guidance it is drawn continuously at the receiving ship's inlet bunker manifold, sealed and identified, and retained under the ship's control until the fuel is substantially consumed but for at least 12 months; it is a statutory compliance sample and is not automatically the contractually binding commercial sample.
