A very light gas and energy carrier that can be used in a fuel cell or burned in suitably designed machinery. It produces no carbon dioxide from the hydrogen itself at the point of use, but requires specialised storage and handling because of its low volumetric energy density and flammability; its lifecycle greenhouse-gas impact depends on the production pathway.
