Viscosity index (VI)

A dimensionless value indicating how much an oil's kinematic viscosity changes with temperature, calculated from viscosities measured at 40°C and 100°C under a specified method. A higher VI indicates a smaller relative change over that temperature interval; it does not identify the oil's viscosity grade or overall quality.
